The video assistant referee
The facts
- The video assistant referee (VAR) was first used at a men’s World Cup in 2018, in Russia.
- VAR can only help with clear mistakes about goals, penalties, straight red cards and mistaken identity.
- The referee on the pitch still makes the final decision.
- A goal counts only when the whole ball has crossed the whole goal line, between the posts and under the crossbar.
Take it to your game
