A Goal Kick Needs Two Options
Give your goalkeeper choices. Read the opponent before deciding where the pass should go.
What the coach says
- The goalkeeper has a goal kick. Two teammates offer different angles.
- The opponent closes the left route. Have a look on the right.
- Which short pass has the clearer route?
- Play to the right. That teammate can open toward the field.
- The opponent covers the left route. The goalkeeper can reach the right teammate along the ground.
- Return the ball to the goalkeeper. This is a new goal-kick picture with pressure on the other side.
- This time the opponent moves right. Check the left teammate again.
- Which teammate can receive this time?
- Use the left option this time. The opponent has left that route open.
- Give your goalkeeper choices. Read the opponent before deciding where the pass should go.
