Fish tale

This little ray is covered in bright blue spots, like a kit designed by a painter. It hides under a ledge all day and glides into the shallows when the tide comes in. It lives in seas around the Maldives, whose team have twice been South Asian champions.

Island story

On Futbol Island the bluespotted ribbontail ray can be caught at:

  • Palm Point: A curving beach on Summit Isle’s shore, shaded by a lone dune palm where five boulders break the swell. Shore crabs work the sand between them.

Size on the island: 20–35 cm.
