An orange roughy grows very slowly and can live for more than 200 years, so it has seen a lot of matches. It lives in cold, dark water far below the boat. New Zealand's Football Ferns won their first World Cup game in 2023, and this one remembers it well.
On Futbol Island the orange roughy can be caught at:
- Deep Sea Boat: A little fishing boat moored far out in the deep blue bay, north of the East Jetty. Squid, marlin and stranger things swim far below.
- Summit Deep Boat: A second little fishing boat, moored in the deep channel west of Summit Isle. Green, deep water where tuna, sailfish and marlin hunt the bait balls.
Size on the island: 30–60 cm.
