Humboldt Squid
Mexico national team (Mexico)
Fun fish fact: Humboldt squid flash red and white, and fishers in Baja California, Mexico, call them "diablo rojo", the red devil. Football: Mexico hosted the World Cup in 1970 and again in 1986.

A Humboldt squid can flash from red to white and back in a blink, like the lights on a scoreboard. It lives deep down by day and comes up near the top at night. Mexico, where lots of them swim, has hosted the World Cup more than once.
On Futbol Island the humboldt squid can be caught at:
- Deep Sea Boat: A little fishing boat moored far out in the deep blue bay, north of the East Jetty. Squid, marlin and stranger things swim far below.
- Summit Deep Boat: A second little fishing boat, moored in the deep channel west of Summit Isle. Green, deep water where tuna, sailfish and marlin hunt the bait balls.
Size on the island: 50–150 cm.
